8 Months & February Clinic
Sienna turned 8 months old on the 7th. She's crawling everywhere, pulling up to stand, taking steps with assistance and overall just a goofy, happy, girl.
Si still loves her milk and dislikes most solids. She's tried apples, pears, bananas, avocado, sweet potato, pumpkin, peas, eggs, applesauce and yogurt. She'll play with food, but not eat it.
She has five teeth now; three on the top and two on the bottom. She loves bath time, but not nap time. She LOVES chasing Joba around (poor guy has to be on the lookout constantly for her grabbing hands).
She's my mini me and our whole world. Sorry Joe, you have your hands full!
We had clinic early last week, where her team continued to be impressed by her good health. She grew taller over the last few months which thinned her out a bit (don't worry, she still has her thighs!). Sienna weighed in just over 19 lbs (50th percentile) and measured 27 1/4 inches tall (75th percentile).
Her Pulmonologist refers to her as "the girl who has CF, but doesn't," which is encouraging. I did feel the need to remind her team that she had a positive sweat test, and therefore I want them to take her care seriously. Yes, she doesn't show symptoms at this time and is currently considered an atypical case, but that doesn't mean we can forget that the threat is there. I struggle sometimes with the decision to wait and see if symptoms arise versus introduce preventative therapies early on. I have to separate what I hear other CF moms doing with their kids, and just have trust that Sienna's team knows what is best for her.
I did request another pancreatic elastase test to see if she remains in the gray zone for sufficiency. She's shown NO signs of insufficiency (stools that are really fowl smelling, greasy, orange, and/or frequent), so I'm hoping we have moved into a more normal elastase range. Her team agreed testing again would be a good thing, so we are now just waiting on insurance to approve the request before we move forward with the test.
At every appointment, Sienna gets a throat swab done. The swab is then sent to a lab to see what type of bacteria may be growing in her lungs. It takes about a week to get the results, but right now Charlotte is pretty much shut down due to snow, so we haven't heard anything from her team. Hopefully we will hear back by the end of this week; fingers crossed for healthy bacteria only!
Our next clinic appointment is in May, so wish us another healthy three months!
